When you are planning a trip to Cancun Mexico, you will find that there is plenty to see and do no matter your tastes. Whether you are into the beauty of nature, the history of the country, or just relaxing on the beach, Cancun has something for you.

Ecological parks

Xcaret
No matter what you are looking for, you can find something that you will enjoy in Xcaret Eco park. Do you like to swim? Xcaret has a wonderful swim with the dolphins feature. You can get right in the water with the dolphins and spend some time up close with these graceful creatures. You can also a snorkel, and do something known as snuba diving, which is diving without the weight of a tank. When you snuba dive, the tank stays up on the top of the water while you swim underneath. It's a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving. If you like water but you aren't that great of a swimmer, then the Sea Trek is perfect for you. You don a helmet which looks like an old fashioned diver's helmet, and you breathe normally with it on. You don't even have to worry about getting your hair wet. Of course, if the water isn't your thing there are plenty of attractions at Xcaret which will keep you dry. There is the Mayan village, the scenic tower, the beautiful San Francisco de Asis chapel, where you can attend mass overlooking the ocean, the aquarium, the butterfly pavilion, and many many other attractions. Once you have visited Xcaret Eco Park, you will want to come back again and again.

Xel-Ha
If you are looking for something more extreme in an ecological park, Xel-Ha is for you. Geared towards the more adventurous visitors, it offers things known as the Flight of Mo and the Courage Cliff, both of which involve jumping into the water from extreme heights. If you are not as adventurous, there is also the opportunity to swim with the dolphins, you can bike through the park, or take a walk along the Conscience Path, which offers you a quiet place to reflect on the beauty of nature. There is also an apiary, where you can find something known as the melipona, the stingless bee. As you can see, the Xel-Ha ecological park offers a lot more attractions geared towards those who are adventurous and enjoy a good thrill now and then, but it also will appeal to just about anyone. There are attractions that are just for children too, so the entire family can find something to enjoy here.

Mayan Ruins

Chichen Itza
If you want to visit some Mayan ruins in Cancun, one of the most notable and beautiful places to go is Chichen Itza. There, some of the most wondrous and amazing pieces of architecture are available for visitors to see. El Castillo, or the castle, can be found at the heart of the site. It's huge, so it's not an easy climb. But if you do take the journey, you will be glad that you did because the view of the surrounding countryside and of the city is simply amazing. The Temple of the Warriors is truly a sight to behold, and will stay in your memory for a long time after your vacation is over. It's incredibly massive, and is completely surrounded by countless columns. Other must see sites in Chichen Itza are the Observatory, the Nunnery, and the Ball court. All of these Mayan ruins are amazingly beautiful and unique, and worth your trip to Cancun.

Tulum
Tulum is another one of the great sites at which to visit and view Mayan ruins. To give you an idea of how old they are, they earliest date that they could discern for the ruins is 564 A.D. This was found on a stele. Some of the things you will see in Tulum are the Temple of the Descending God, The Kukucan group, which is found just north of El Castillo, and the city square. You will find many interesting things about these ruins and it is definitely something to go see while you are in Cancun.

Isla Mujeres

If you are looking for a place that has just about everything that you can think of. If you are someone who likes to swim, you can swim with the dolphins, snorkel at Garrafon's reef, go kayaking, and scuba diving. If you are someone who isn't a big fan of the water Isle Mujeres has things that you will enjoy as well. There's the turtle farm, the temple of Ixchel, and the Sculpture Garden, all of which can be done without worrying about getting your feet wet. No trip to Cancun is complete without a trip to Isla Mujeres.

Pirate Assault

If you are looking for something fun and different to do while in Cancun, one of the favorite attractions that is available is something called Pirate Assault. You start out on a boat and during your journey your boat is attacked by pirates. Some of the passengers are taken hostage, and when you arrive at your destination, you discover that they are trapped in the guillotine. This fun adventure includes your boat ride, a feast, open bar, and many other amenities. This is something that is definitely worth looking into.

Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin Botanical Garden

One of the most beautiful places to visit in Cancun is the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin Botanical Garden. Here, you can truly get in touch with nature as you stroll through the gardens and interact with spider monkeys, lizards, and many different species of birds. Some of the plants that you will see are cactus, different types of medicinal plants, and of course the orchids. At one point in the path you will find a tower that you can climb, and from the top you will find a breathtaking view of the Carribean Sea and the surrounding jungle. As well as the plants and animals, and the wonderful view from the tower, you can also visit Mayan ruins that are dated from 1400 AD, and something called the Chiclero camp that is built to represent a Mayan facility that produces chewing gum.

Of course, along with all the attractions listed above, you will also find many things to do on your own. The beaches in Cancun are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and you can spend your whole vacation just laying there in the sun, soaking up the rays and swimming in the crystal clear water if that is what you want to do.
